Regional Pilot Expansion Welcomed by the Sector

On Friday, 25 September, Senator Helen Polley and Senator Carol Brown announced the expansion of Federal Government support for a unique project aimed at boosting the financial and operational sustainability of aged care in Tasmania.

The project was originally announced for North West Tasmania to examine how providers can develop a regional model of aged care provision that supports the local ageing population, is financially sustainable and ensures better utilisation of resources.

The Government announced that it would financially contribute to this project following strong lobbying from the Member for Braddon, Sid Sidebottom.

At the Annual General Meeting of Aged and Community Services Tasmania on Friday Senator Polley and Senator Brown provided CEO Darren Mathewson with a letter from Minister for Ageing offering her support to the project’s application across any region of Tasmania.

“This announcement comes as a direct result of recent lobbying by Aged & Community Services Tasmania CEO, Darren Mathewson, and President Susan Parr, as well as Tasmanian Labor Senators and Members, to the Minister.” Senator Polley said at the meeting.

“This announcement is an example of constructive collaboration between the industry and the Government.” Senator Carol Brown concluded.
