Cressy District High School Focus of Polley Visit

Senator Helen Polley and Tasmanian Lyons MP Michael Polley visited Cressy District High School on 31 August to see firsthand the redevelopment that is currently underway as part of the Rudd Government’s Building the Education Revolution.

Senator Polley and Michael Polley MP were impressed by the growth of the school in recent years, both in number of students and in the sense of community that has developed. Cressy District High School now has students in record numbers and a waitlist for admission. This is largely due to the efforts of staff and parents, especially those of Principal Annette Hollingsworth.

Cressy District High School is currently constructing and redeveloping parts of its campus largely thanks to 3 rounds of funding from the Building the Education Revolution. Under the National School Pride Program Cressy District High School received $150,000 to refurbish the kindergarten, learning and play area and to upgrade some external walls.

Under the Science and Language Centres for 21st Century Secondary Schools Program Cressy received $774,380 to make a long overdue upgrade to its science classroom.

The Primary Schools for the 21st Century Program saw another $850,000 committed for the refurbishment of the old gymnasium, which will commence shortly. The State Labor Government recently confirmed an additional $1 million from the State Capital Investment Program to enable the project to be fully funded.

“Both I and Michael Polley are delighted that Cressy District High School has managed to receive such practical and necessary assistance that will target the areas of greatest need for the school.” Senator Polley said. “In turn, these upgrades will add new facilities for the utilisation and benefit of the entire Cressy community. I look forward to visiting again to see the children enjoying the finished results.”
