FEDERAL LABOR LAUNCESTON EDUCATION UPGRADES OPENED

Refurbishments and building works at Launceston Preparatory School, funded under Federal Labor’s Building the Education Revolution, were officially opened today by Senator Helen Polley.

Launceston Preparatory School received $75,000 under the National School Pride and $875,000 under the Primary Schools for the 21st Century elements of the Building the Education Revolution.

“This is another example of Federal Labor investing in Tasmanian schools to give every child a quality education and helping to prepare kids for jobs,” Senator Polley said.

Geoff Lyons, Federal Labor Candidate for Bass also welcomed the opening of the new school facilities.

“Julia Gillard is delivering better schools and better education, but Tony Abbott would cut Trade Training Centres in high schools and the computers in schools program,” Geoff Lyons said.

“Tony Abbott and Steve Titmus are a risk to our local schools and to the quality education that local families expect the Federal Government to deliver.”

The $1.28 billion National School Pride program is providing funding to over 9400 eligible schools in every State and Territory for minor infrastructure and refurbishment.

The $14.1 billion Primary Schools for the 21st Century (P21) element is providing funding to over 7900 eligible primary schools in every state and territory for major new infrastructure.

“I am delighted that this particular project has also employed 40 contract workers,” said Senator Polley.
