TASMANIAN LABOR SENATE CANDIDATE

LABOR VISITS SHOW TRUE COMMITMENT TO TASMANIA

Labor Senate Candidate, Helen Polley, said today that she was pleased that Tasmania is being supported by Federal Labor during this election campaign.

“Prime Minister Gillard has already visited Tasmania twice in the last two weeks,” Senator Polley said.

“Yet we have not seen Tony Abbott – the supposed alternate Prime Minister – visit Tasmania at all.

“I am pleased that today the Deputy Prime Minister, Wayne Swan is in Hobart to talk about Labor’s plans for Australia’s future.

“But where is Deputy Opposition Leader, Julie Bishop?

“Where is Shadow Treasurer, Joe Hockey?

“In fact, the only Shadow Minister Tasmania has seen is a virtually unknown, Western Australian Senator who arrived in Hobart yesterday.”

Other senior Labor Ministers to visit the State during the campaign already include:

  • Minister for Climate Change, Penny Wong
  • Minister for Infrastructure, Anthony Albanese
  • Minister for Resources and Energy, Martin Ferguson
  • Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy

Senator Polley said that she expected the list of Labor Ministers visiting all five Tasmanian electorates to continue over the course of the Federal campaign.

“I am personally very excited to be able to show our Federal Ministers, first-hand, the challenges and opportunities we have here in Tasmania.

“Tony Abbott and the Tasmanian Liberal Party candidates have to explain to Tasmanians why their shadow Cabinet is refusing to visit our State.”
