FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DATE 27/08/09
New Australian Government projects to keep Bass working
Senator Helen Polley today welcomed the Australian Government’s announcement of funding to support 19 jobs, 5 traineeships, and 30 work experience places in Bass.
3 local projects will receive funding under the Australian government’s $650 million Jobs Fund. These include $267,000 for the Mad Wheels program at the Door of Hope, $150,000 to the Launceston City Council’s ‘Launceston Communities Working Together’ initiative, and $150,000 to the George Town Waste Management Centre.
Senator Polley said the Australian Government was investing in employment and training initiatives across Australia and she welcomed the announcement of projects to secure jobs in the local region.
“The Mad Wheels program, for example, will not only be able to recruit and retain staff, but will also be able to continue to provide youth engagement and services to the community.”
“All these projects will help create or retain jobs and training opportunities for local workers, and will support the local communities during these difficult times,” Senator Polley said.
“This local area will not be immune to the effects of the global downturn, “said Senator Polley.
“The Australian Government is taking decisive action to help insulate local economies from the worst effects of the global recession.”
