NORTHERN TASMANIA SET TO BENEFIT FROM NEW COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE
Senator Helen Polley, Labor Senator for Tasmania today announced that the Federal Government has opened applications and released funding amounts for all local governments in Northern Tasmania under Round Three of the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP).
“This round will provide up to $602,000 for local councils in Northern Tasmania as part of a $100 million national round for local community infrastructure priorities,” Senator Polley said.
“Across the community, the Government has delivered record funding for a range of great community projects in our area including improvements to school infrastructure and community facilities,” Senator Polley said.
Now, each and every local government will receive new funding for community infrastructure in our area. This includes:
· $253,000 for the Launceston City Council
· $125,000 for the West Tamar Council
· $110,000 for the Dorset Council
· $84,000 for the George Town Council
· $30,000 for the Flinders Council
Round Three provides greater flexibility for our community, with changes made to allow councils to nominate:
- projects on behalf of local community organisations;
- projects as part of a group of councils; and
- environmental protection and climate change infrastructure projects.
Senator Polley said “I encourage residents, community members and organisations to get in touch with their council and let them know your priorities for local infrastructure.
The Senator continued by saying “these projects have created jobs and delivered an economic boost in the community while improving the quality of life for local residents and the Government is committed to supporting our local community and providing better infrastructure and services.”
Local governments can submit eligible local priorities until Friday July 30 2010.
