Senator Polley Elected as Chair of New Senate Committee

Senator Helen Polley last week made history after being elected as Chair of the Finance and Public Administration Legislation Committee, the first female ever to fill this position.

“It is a great honour to not only represent the people of Tasmania as a Senator, but also to chair a committee that ensures the best possible legislation is brought before both Houses of Parliament.” Senator Polley said.

Senator Polley has worked hard as Chair of the former Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Public Administration in many key inquiries, such as the recent and comprehensive inquiries into aged care in Australia and into a possible Australian Republic. The Committee, along with many others, was recently split into two – a Legislation Committee and a Reference Committee. “I look forward to continuing my work as Chair of the Legislation Committee and as Deputy Chair of the Reference Committee. The role these committees play in examining key issues in our society is vital and is a testament to the health of our democracy.” Senator Polley concluded.
